Etymology

Onyx term derives from the Greek "ὄνυξ" which means nail or claw. This name comes from a Greek legend. The legend explains that while the goddess Venus slept on the banks of the Indus River Cupid cut her nails with one of his arrows. The scraps were forgotten in the meadow, other gods decided to turn them into stone to preserve them as they were, a valuable part of the beautiful Venus.

Etimología

Los términos ónice y ónix proceden del griego “ὄνυξ” que significa uña o garra. Este nombre se debe a una leyenda griega. La leyenda explica que mientras la diosa Venus dormía en las orillas del río Indo Cupido le cortó las uñas con una de sus flechas. Los trocitos quedaron olvidados en el prado dónde otras divinidades decidieron convertirlos en piedra para conservarlos pues eran una valiosa parte de la hermosa Venus.

The natural aventurine is a type of quartz that has mica yellow flakes or other inclusions in its matrix that give the gemstone its color and provides the shiny highlights known as aventurine effects.

La venturina natural es un tipo de cuarzo en el que se encuentran diseminadas pajitas de mica amarillas u otras inclusiones que le dan color a la piedra y provocan unos reflejos brillantes especiales conocidos como efecto aventurinado.

If they are mica fuchsite inclusions they give to the gemstone its typical emerald green color, and sometimes blue color. The green color can be caused by actiolite inclusions too. If the stone has mica muscovite in its matrix then it has golden or silver highlights. The hematite or goethite inclusions give to the aventurine a puce color, but depending of the hematite concentration it can have an apricot orange color.
Aventurine can be found in Brazil, India, Spain, Russia, Austria and Tanzania. 

Si las inclusiones son de mica fuchsita le dan a la aventurina su típico color verde esmeralda y, en ocasiones, color azul. El color verde también puede estar provocado por inclusiones de actinolita. Si contiene mica moscovita presenta destellos plateados y dorados. Las inclusiones de hematites o de goethita le dan a la aventurina un color pardo rojizo. Según la concentración de hematites puede presentar un color naranja albaricoque (la piedra se conoce como eosita).

Se encuentran depósitos en Brasil, India, España, Austria, Rusia y Tanzania.
