The turquoise / La turquesa

The turquoise is considered one of the most antiques amulets, stone of victory and achievements. It’s believed that the word turquoise appeared back in the 16th century and comes from the French “pierre turquoise” that means Turkish stone. That’s because most of the turquoises that arrived Europe came from this country cause it was placed strategically on the Silk Road. In turkey the stone was called “Fayruz” lucky stone. Pliny the Elder (old Rome) referred to the mineral as “callais”, the Iranians named it "phirouzeh" and the Aztecs knew it as “Teoxihuitl”.
